Bouldering

Coopers Rock State Forest above the Cheat Canyon is the state's best-known boulder field, with a dense concentration of sandstone problems in mature forest. The New River Gorge, Summersville and the Meadow all hold developed and developing boulders as well.

Rock Climbing Season · Sep–May All 2 places

Coopers Rock in November, with cold dry air and no leaves on the trees, is as good as bouldering gets in the mid-Atlantic.

Sandstone problems scattered through mature forest above the Cheat Canyon, fifteen minutes from Morgantown.

Practical note

Summer here is humid enough that friction essentially disappears. Plan for October through March, and check the forecast for dew point rather than temperature.
